To better serve the needs of shelter and rescue organizations across Canada, the Ontario Veterinary College Community Healthcare Partnership Program (CHPP) has launched its Shelter Outbreak Consultation Service.
This program offers in-person shelter disease outbreak assistance in Ontario (depending on our program’s availability) and remote assistance across Canada. These services are offered by CHPP’s clinical resident in shelter medicine, Dr Wesley Cheung, with support from adjunct faculty members Dr Alex Ellis DVM DABVP (Shelter Medicine Practice), Shelter Outreach Consultation Services, Alberta; and Dr Emilia Wong Gordon DVM DABVP (Shelter Medicine Practice), Haven Veterinary Services, British Columbia.
Consultations are fully subsidized by CHPP and include population-level support, risk assessment and guidance to organizations that are experiencing (or think they may be experiencing) an outbreak. Organizations will remain responsible for providing individual animal veterinary care (e.g., physical exams, diagnostic submissions through their local vets).
